Raymond B. Smyth, a long-time director of Stamford-based Patriot Bank, died this week at the age of 75.

The bank said in a statement today that Smyth had been dealing with a severe illness and died on Sept. 22.

A lifelong resident of Stamford, Smyth was a retired partner from the accounting firm Masotti & Masotti, where he worked for nearly 40 years.

Smyth had joined Patriot Bank’s board of directors in 2008. He was on the asset liability committee, audit committee, loan committee and executive committee for the bank’s parent company, Patriot National Bancorp, as well as Patriot Bank’s compliance committee.

“Patriot’s fellow directors and its entire staff express deepest condolences to his family and honor Ray for his invaluable contribution to Patriot and the community,” the bank said in the statement.

Smyth was a former president and treasurer of Stamford’s Kiwanis Club and had volunteer positions in Stamford with the American Little League and Youth Basketball. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 25 years and had been a board member at Trinity Catholic High School.

He is survived by his children, Paul Smyth and Steven Smyth, and three grandchildren, according to his obituary.
