Town officials in Newington have OK’d a hotel proposed for a parcel near a CTfastrak bus rapid transit station, which offers a rapid connection to downtown Hartford.
A Florida hotel developer sought to build a 4-story, 122-key hotel at 712 Cedar St.
Miami-based Gold Cost Premier Properties sought and received town Planning & Zoning Committee approval for the 48,660-square-foot hotel with 126 parking spots on 2.23 acres. The site is located next to Newington’s CTfastrak station and a quarter-mile from Central Connecticut State University.
The developer also received approval to subdivide the original, roughly 5-acre parcel into two smaller ones, the one further from the busway being left undeveloped under plans submitted to the town, save for an existing Starbucks location.
Newington offers density and other incentives for transit-adjacent properties, but Gold Coast did not take advantage of them, town staff said.
