After its parent company filed for bankruptcy last week, the original Ann Taylor store on in New Haven closed its doors for the last time Sunday.

A victim of both the ascendancy of online shopping and the coronavirus lockdown, following its filing, the Ascena Retail Group closed many of its retail shops, including the store on Chapel Street where “Ann Taylor” was born.

The New Haven Independent reports the store earned its name because “Ann” was a popular name in New England, and “Taylor” suggested well-fitting clothing.
