East Hartford Buys Blighted Ex-Cinema for $3.3M

East Hartford is moving forward on a plan to revitalize a blighted former Showcase Cinema location along Interstate 84.

The town paid $3.3 million to purchase the land on Jan. 31 from National Amusements, according to town land records.

The town used state dollars previously allocated to redevelop the Silver Lane site to buy the 25.6-acre site, the Hartford Business Journal reports. The paper adds that the town plans to demolish the structures on the site, and hopes to lure a mixed-use development there.
