Fairfield County does not look like it will be able to draw the data centers that provide the back end for Wall Street firms, according to a new investigation by the Connecticut Mirror.

But legislation passed by the General Assembly earlier this year in an effort to draw these businesses away from New Jersey is helping other data centers get off the ground elsewhere in the state.

The law allows developers of new data centers to make an annual, discounted, flat-fee payment instead of paying local property taxes on their land, buildings and equipment.

Since the law went into effect, four Eastern Connecticut communities have signed these “host fee agreements” with a data center developer, the Mirror reported.
